Using CBD as a medicine / pain reliever is becoming more and more known throughout the United States as marijuana gets closer to federal legalization. Now that marijuana is legal for medical use in a majority of the states in America the health benefits are becoming increasingly known. CBD is used in a variety of ways today, according to medical news today as of June 2018 the FDA has approved epidiolex (which is a pure form of CBD) to treat two different types of epilepsy. This is a huge step in the right direction in getting rid of opiates and other harmful pharmaceutical drugs that are used today. According to web MD the two forms of epilepsy are Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. These two forms of epilepsy are rare, however this is the 3rd clinical trial to see the effects that CBD has on the body whether it is positive or negative. WebMD also says that Epidiolex is manufactured by a British firm GW Pharmaceuticals. They are also the ones who funded the most previous trial on CBD treatments in epilepsy. CBD is relatively new in getting media coverage or any scientific backing to support what this medicine really does. Using CBD as a treatment for epilepsy is primarily the only disease scientist’s have approved the use of CBD with. According to webMD “A total of 225 patients suffering from Lennox-Gastaut syndrome were divided into three groups. Those taking 20 mg of Epidiolex a day had 42 percent fewer seizures, on average, compared with 37 percent fewer seizures in the group taking 10 mg of the drug, and a 17 percent reduction in the placebo group.
But while the 20-mg dose was slightly more effective, it was not the first choice of parents” Devinsky said . Although it is clear that the 20mg of epidiolex was more effective, the parents seemed to have chose to give their children the 10 mg of epidiolex instead of the 20 mg. The reason behind this idea is due to the fact that children showed less side effects using the 10 mg dosage vs the 20 mg dosage. The side effects that were observed includes, loss of appetite, tiredness and in some cases diarrhea. With the massively growing marijuana industry, knowledge about CBD is growing exponentially each and everyday. CBD, a better way to live your life.
